The Ultimate Affiliate Marketing Guide

I have mentioned time and time again that affiliate marketing is a great way to make money and maybe briefly explained how you do it, but I never really went into full detail on it or really given you a guide to it. So today, I want to supply you with everything that there is to know about affiliate marketing, making this post “The Ultimate Affiliate Marketing Guide”.

I will be covering a lot of ground here today, so I think the logical place to start would be by giving you a firm understanding of what Affiliate Marketing is.

What Is Affiliate Marketing? What is Affiliate Marketing

In order to learn how you can use something, you need to first know what that something is. By definition, an Affiliate is a “person or organization officially attached to a larger body” and Marketing is “the action or business of promoting and selling products or services, including market research and advertising.”.

So when you put the definitions together, an Affiliate Marketer is “a person who works for a larger body by promoting and selling that body’s products or services”. I think that is a great way to break the definition down and explain it very simply but effectively.

Now that you fully understand what it means to affiliate market, we can now move on to how it can be done.

Become an Affiliate

Being an affiliate marketer is very lucrative, simple to do and requires no college degree. The marketing part comes in later, but you must first become an affiliate. You have to have a product to promote before you can do any promoting, right?

Before I get into things, I want to first make it very clear that you can not affiliate market unless you have some sort of website. If you don’t have a website yet, I have you covered with a 3 part series on how to create your very own money producing website, that you can read if you Click Here.

For the sake of this guide, I will be using Amazon as an example, because they have most products and have one of the most popular affiliate programs out there. Some locations will not allow you to become an Amazon affiliate, which does suck, but there are countless successful affiliate marketers out there that have never touched Amazon.

To become an Amazon affiliate, head over to Amazon.com, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select “Become an Affiliate”. You will then be taken to another page, where you just hit the “Join Now for Free” button. You will then be brought to a page where you can make an account, then just follow their provided steps and they will review your request and hopefully accept it within a couple days.

Become an Affiliate Marketeraffiliate marketing

Congratulations on becoming an affiliate! You are half-way there, but the next half is a more time-consuming process that will take tons more effort. Now you have the links, but you need to get people to buy products from those links, easier said then done.

If you have a website, depending on what it is based on, you can add affiliate links to a lot of posts. It is very easy to do, but I first want to talk about making a product review.

With your affiliate account set up, you can really start putting them on your website today, and I think a really great way of doing that would be with a product review. Sure, you can add affiliate links to other posts and they may work great there, but I find product reviews to be a very easy way to do it.

There is a 5 step process to making the perfect product review that are as follows:

1. Find a Product

This is a very easy step to complete. Head over to Amazon and find a product that you have a lot of good things to say about and use that as your product for review.

2. Use Your Opinion to Your Advantage

This is what sets you apart from the rest. I’m sure the product you picked has been reviewed time and time again, but if you have something new and unique to say about a specific product, people will like you more and the chance of them buying from you increases.

3. Include all the “Specs”Specs

When I say specs, I am referring to specs of a laptop, but what I am getting at is that you need to include all the specific details about a product. If you have a website about losing weight and you are doing a review on a blender, you want to explain all the “specs” of it, like wattage output, capacity, weight, dimensions, cord length, if it’s dishwasher safe, etc.

You want to completely inform the potential buyer of everything about the product, the odds of them buying from you are greater if they are certain they know everything about what they are buying. Try to form a template for your later reviews and feel free to use my review on the Dell XPS 13 9360 as a template, that review came out great.

4. Add a “Final Thoughts” Header

I didn’t really go through how to write your article, but yes it should be broken up and a great way that you should use is with header text. Again, if you need any help with writing your content, Click Here to read my post about writing amazing website content and making it look very professional, I strongly encourage you to go and read that.

With that out of the way, what I meant by “Final Thoughts” is that at the end of your post you should make a header that reads “Final Thoughts” or something along those lines, where you will write a brief rundown of everything. I like to call mine “The Verdict” and I include a “BuildYourOnlineEnterprise.com Rating”, where I give the product a percentage of how much I like it.

Then I put a list of all the pros and cons of that particular product and afterwards say a few words about overall if I think it is worth picking up and who should buy this product. Again, Click Here to read one of my reviews.

5. Add Your Affiliate Link

This is the important part of this and the reason you are doing this is to add your affiliate link. Doing this is very simple, in this 5 step process, I will just be talking about adding text links, but later on I will discuss the different ways you can link to Amazon.

To add your link, head over to the product on Amazon.com, and up top there is a bar called the Amazon Associates SiteStripe, and with this you can simply hit “Text” and it will give you a link. Copy (Ctrl+C) that and head back over to your review. In WordPress or in the Wealthy Affiliate Site Content, you can highlight a series of words, hit the chain icon, and insert your link.

Simple as that, if you have followed these steps you should have a pretty well-structured product review and you should be ready to publish it. WAIT! Before you publish it, if you didn’t read my post on content creation you should still make sure to include some images of the product within. That will also increase chances of a sale. People are visual learners.

Now go ahead and publish that to your website and that’s it. You are an affiliate marketer now. Nice job on that, but if you want your review to stand out even more, I would recommend using other types of links.

Ways to Add Affiliate Linksaffiliate link

I already talked about text links, those are the easiest to set up. There are quite a few other ways to incorporate your links which I will explain now.

The next one I will explain is an image link. To set one of these up, go to the product, go to the Site Stripe and hit “Image”. You can then select the size you want, and then it will give you a code and you copy it. Head over to WordPress, click “Posts”, then select your product review.

Within your product review, find the spot where you want your image link, the hit enter to make some space for it. Near the top right you will see 2 boxes, one says “Visual” the other “Text”, you need to select “Text”, then where you made the empty line, you will see code that reads ” “. Delete that and add your image link code, hit “Visual” and you should see your new image link. Hit update and that’s that.

For a text+image link, follow the same process as the image link. Then if you want to get really fancy, you can add native shopping ads, which I use occasionally because they look really good, clean, and are a great way to show related products.

To add these, click your Site Stripe, which will bring you into your Amazon Associates home page. Under “Product Linking” click the option that reads “Native Shopping Ads”. From here, you can select the type of Native Shopping ads you want, I use Search Ads, but you can read through each of them and pick.

Near the bottom, hit “Create Search Ads” or what ever ads you want. Then in the box located on the left, type in the product you reviewed, but make the search broad. If you reviewed the NutriBullet, search blender. Same process as before with the image link, hit “Text”, paste it where you want and update.

Feel free to play around with other kinds of ads that I didn’t mention, those are just the ones I use and know how to use, the set up processes should be similar.

Keep Marketing!affiliate market on

You are an affiliate, but you need to keep on marketing. You have taken your first steps toward becoming a successful affiliate marketer and that is a really awesome thing. If your website is relatively new, you won’t be getting that much traffic, meaning not that many sales.
