Samsung Chromebook 3 Review

Samsung Chromebook 3 Review

In today’s world, starting an online business is super easy to do.

The only tool you need is a computer, but unless you want to be tied down to one spot, it would be recommended to have a laptop.

Most solid business laptops will run you over $500, but if you are on a really tight budget and want to get your business rolling, you definitely need something cheaper.

There are tons and tons (and I mean tons) of cheap laptops out there, none of them really standing out too much.

However, one in particular has caught my eye and that is the Samsung Chromebook 3.

Here is why I think it is definitely worth it.

Specifications

Screen: 11.6 inch, 1366 x 768, 16:9 aspect ratio.

Laptop Performance

The performance of this laptop is really nothing that great, but for $200 there really isn’t much to complain about.

First things first, the screen.  The screen isn’t that great, yes it is HD, but barely.

You can definitely tell that this is not a high-end laptop by looking at the screen, due to its awful viewing angles and low resolution, though the brightness is pretty good.

Next up, the CPU.

Though it won’t allow for much video editing, coding or gaming, it should be fine for basic business tasks like writing articles, publishing blogs and checking your social media.

The 4 GB of RAM included is nothing great, but it isn’t that bad.  You should be able to preform basic business tasks.

The GPU in this thing is bad, comparable to a GPU that was good about 10 years ago, but that’s expected in a $200 laptop.

The storage is very low, at only 16 GB, though it is an SSD, which is nice and fast.

The operating system as previously mentioned is Chrome OS, which is a decent operating system, but one that requires a lot less power to run.

There is a camera included but I was unable to find out the exact specs of it, though there were many complaints about the quality.

This laptop truly shines in its battery life, at a whopping 11 hours on a single charge, which should last you the entire day without having to worry about charging it.

I should also mention how lightweight and slim it is.  You should have no problem carrying this thing around with you.

The keyboard included is really not half bad for $200.  It is spill proof and decently comfortable for long use.

Finally, the track pad, which isn’t too bad either.  Sure it isn’t great, but it should hold you over until you pick up a mouse.

FeaturesSamsung Chromebook 3

  • Wi-Fi.
  • Bluetooth.
  • 2 USB Ports.
  • Full Size HDMI Port.
  • Spill Resistant.
  • Micro SD Card Slot.
  • Headphone jack.

Accessories

With laptops like this, there are some accessories that I would highly recommend that you pick up to make your experience using it much better.

Before we get into those, considering that this is something that you will be carrying around a lot, you’re going to need a case, there’s no doubt about that.

Though there are cheaper options, I think a really great case to choose would be the 11.6 Inch Water Resistant Laptop Case, not sure what brand makes these, but they are very high quality.

It offers great protection for your Chromebook, including water repellent and moisture proofing, 3 front pockets protected by durable zippers and shockproof fluffy fleece fabric lining.

Not to mention the tight fit, side handle and very sleek look.

Next on the list, you will definitely need a mouse.

I always include a mouse as an accessory to but, but in the case of this laptop, considering that the track pad really isn’t good, I think you should really grab one, even if you usually prefer track pads.

The one I’m going to recommend that you pick up is the TeckNet Pro 2.4G Ergonomic Wireless Mobile Optical Mouse, because of its $10 price tag.

Not only that, it looks amazing and is very speedy when comparing it to others around this price.  The battery life is also pretty good.

The reason to buy a laptop is obviously for the portability, right?

Well, if you aren’t really one to travel around a lot and think that you would find a decent amount of time at home at your desk, then I think it would make a lot of since to get a monitor.

Why?

First, the screen included really isn’t that great, and considering this laptop has an HDMI port, you might as well take advantage of it and plug in a nice monitor.

Second, the screen really isn’t all that large and if you plan to use this a lot, you definitely want something larger.

Third, with a second monitor, you can set it up to work as a second screen, meaning you can have double the work space, so you can see multiple tabs at the same time.

When working on my website, I use two screen and it helps so much, one screen open to WordPress for writing and the other open for research.

Monitors can be quite expensive, but I think that the AOC i2367Fh 23-Inch IPS Frameless LED-Lit Monitor is a steal for under $150.

It is full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080), has built in speakers, 2 HDMI ports, and is available in 22 inch, 23 inch, 24 inch, 27 inch, and 29 inch.

It does not include an HDMI cord, so you’ll have to buy one separately Here for around $10.

So for under $400, you can get yourself a decent laptop, along with a full HD second display, mouse and carrying case.

  1. Thanks for the review.

Do you know if the RAM and SSD are upgradeable, or are you stuck with the 4GB and 16GB SSD?

    1. No problem Dave!
If you want more storage space, you can buy an external hard drive like the one here for about $50, but as for upgrading the RAM, I’m not really sure.
