HP Stream 14 Review

HP Stream 14 Review

Previously, we looked at the Samsung Chromebook 3, which is definitely a very solid option for anyone who is looking to start an online business at a reasonable price.

If you haven’t yet read about it, Click Here to read my review of it.

Though it’s good, it may not be the best choice for someone looking to build an online business, and there are certainly some competitors for the title of “Best Cheap Business Laptop”.

I have selected 3 competitors for that title, all of which are under $200, but the one we will be looking at today being the HP Stream 14.

Screen: 14″ HD SVA BrightView WLED-backlit (1366 x 768).

Processor: Intel Celeron N3350 (1.1 GHz base frequency, up to 2.4 GHz burst frequency, 2 MB cache, 2 cores).

RAM: 4 GB RAM.HP Stream 14 Review

Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 400.

Operating System: Windows 10 Home.

Battery Life: 7 hours.

Weight: 3.11 lbs.

Dimensions: 0.7 x 8.9 x 13.3 inches.

Laptop Performance

Performance-wise, the HP Stream 14 is just about what you’d expect from a $200 laptop.

Starting off with the screen, it’s HD, but considering the size of the screen, the 1366 x 768 resolution doesn’t look good.

If you look at the screen, you can definitely tell it isn’t a high-end laptop.

It’s nothing great, but it will look decent and will function as intended.

Up next we have the CPU.

For most basic business tasks it should be fine, but if you are interested in video editing, coding or gaming, this definitely won’t be enough.

The amount of RAM included is a solid 4 GB, which isn’t anything special but will allow you to perform some basic business tasks.

The GPU sucks, you really can’t expect to run anything the slightest bit demanding of graphical power.

So far nothing has been looking that great on this, but the storage space really isn’t that bad for the price.

For under $200 get a 64 GB SSD, which is wicked fast when compared to an HDD.

If you don’t know the difference between an HDD and an SSD, this video should explain it.

The reason why is because a solid state drive is faster is because it has no moving parts within.  All the information is stored on microchips rather than having a mechanical arm read and write information.

Even if it was an HDD, 64 GB of storage on a laptop of this price is pretty good, and the fact that it is an SSD is just icing on the cake.

I want to mention that while I was reading some reviews of this laptop, some stated that there were quite a few useless apps that take up a decent amount of space, but nothing that can’t be uninstalled.

The operating system this time around is Windows 10 Home, which is very easy to use and overall an amazing operating system for any business to run on, and in my opinion, the best operating system you can get at this price (second only to macOS).

The battery life isn’t really that great, it should last you most of the day, but 7 hours isn’t really a lot when compared most other laptops on the market.

This is a relatively slim and lightweight laptop, which will really allow you to carry this thing around with ease.

The keyboard included is pretty comfortable and easy to use for long periods of time.

Last but not least, the track pad.

It is just about what you would expect from a track pad of this price, usable but not recommended for productivity.

Track pads really don’t become something great until you hit that $1,000+ range.

  • WiFi.HP Stream 14 Review
  • Bluetooth 4.2.
  • Webcam.
  • 2 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Ports.
  • 1 USB 2.0 Port.
  • Full Size HDMI Port.
  • 1 VGA Port.
  • 1 RJ-45 Port (Commonly used for Ethernet networking).
  • 1 Headphone/Microphone Combo.

Where laptops like this are lower in price, the additional cost for optimal functionality will be quite a bit.

Let’s first start with some basic laptop accessories, starting with a case.

I chose the Lacdo 14-15 Laptop Shoulder Bag because of its surplus of storage space, sleek look, and phenomenal protection.

This case may be a bit overkill, but it really is great for carrying this laptop around.

Considering the quality of this track pad, you will definitely need to pick up a mouse, especially if you plan to use this laptop for business.

I have recommended this mouse many times before and I will recommend it again.

Why do you think I would recommend it again?

Because the TeckNet Pro 2.4G Ergonomic Wireless Mobile Optical Mouse is an amazing mouse, with a combination of a very awesome look, battery life, speed, assortment of colors and $10 price tag.

The amount of storage isn’t bad for the price, but if you plan on holding a lot of business files, you will definitely want to consider picking up an external hard drive.

There are plenty to choose from, but a very reliable and relatively cheap one would be the Toshiba Canvio Advance, which comes in many different sizes, but for $50 you can get 1 TB (1,000 GB).

What’s really cool about the previously mentioned accessories is that they will all fit inside your carrying case and will be relatively easy to transport.

This last accessory I like to throw in for fun, but in all seriousness, it can be extremely helpful and that is a monitor.

I know that you are probably thinking “That is dumb and will cost a fortune” and in response to that I say “That is an incorrect statement”.

First, the screen included, though it’s a decent size, it doesn’t look that good.

Considering this laptop has an HDMI port you might as well take advantage of it and plug in a nice monitor.

Second, you don’t have that much room with only one screen.

If you plan to work on your computer and get a lot done, then having 2 screens that will allow for multiple tabs to be displayed at once which will prove to be very efficient when working.

And when you want to go somewhere, you just unplug the HDMI port and throw the laptop in your bag.

Third, getting a solid monitor really isn’t that expensive.

The AOC  i2367Fh 23-Inch IPS Frameless LED-Lit Monitor is a steal for under $150.

It is full HD 1080p (1920 x 1080), has built in speakers, 2 HDMI ports, and is available in varying sizes depending on your price range.

No HDMI cord included, but you can pick one up if you Click Here for about $10.

Essentially, you can pick up the laptop along with all these accessories for about $450, which will allow for double screen work and portability, which I find to be amazing.
