How to Create a Money Producing Website

At this point, you should have your website all set up and have some good content published to it.

If you are not yet there, Click Here to read my previous post on creating content, or Click Here to read my post on setting up your website.

Once you have done all of that, it is time to turn your website into a valuable asset.

There are countless ways of making money online, and having your own website is a very popular one.

Odds are the reason you started your website to begin with was to make some cash.

Keep in mind that owning a website is not a get-rich-quick scheme, it takes time and a lot of effort before you will start to reap the rewards.

There are 2 very popular ways to make money on your site that we will be discussing today, the first being through Affiliate Marketing.

Add Affiliate Links to Your Websiteaffiliate link tutorial

First off, let’s make sure you know what affiliate marketing is.

Affiliate Marketing is a marketing arrangement by which an online retailer pays a commission to an external website for traffic or sales generated from its referrals.

All you do is sign up for an affiliate program, and if they accept your request you will be given a unique link to an assortment of products and if someone buys that product through you, you get a commission.

Sign Up for an Affiliate Program

There are affiliate programs out there for literally everything, all you have to do is look, but today we will be focusing on Amazon. Some locations won’t allow you to become an Amazon affiliate, which sucks, but there are many successful affiliate marketers that have never touched Amazon.

To sign up to be an Amazon affiliate, you must first head over to Amazon.com, scroll down to the bottom of the page and under “Make money with us”, you will see a button that says “Become an affiliate”, which you will click on. Then simply follow the steps provided and they will review your request, and hopefully they will accept it.

Add Affiliate Links to your Content

Now that Amazon has approved your site to display their ads, it’s time to add the links to your content. Make sure that you don’t overload your content with links though. First, google will view you as only a bridge page and not rank you as high, and second people won’t trust you as much. You need to find a way to work them into your content, where it doesn’t just feel like you are just trying to sell them a product, but it feels as if you are recommending them a product to go along with your solution to their problem.

If you posted a review, that is a different story, of course you are trying to sell them a product. They look up a review to help solve their problem of deciding whether or not a specific product is worth buying, and you supply them with everything they should take into consideration.

Here is a perfect example of how to work them into your content: I have a post about selling on eBay, and at the end, I explain the shipping process, and then recommend the supplies I use, Click Here to read that post.

Once you have figured out how to work them in, it is time to add them. First, head over to Amazon.com, and find the item you want to advertise. Then up top, you will see the Amazon Associates SiteStripe, and hit Get Link: Text, and copy it. Within your post, highlight the text you want your visitors to click on to bring them to the product, hit the link button and paste the link into it.

You can stop there, but I would highly recommend you use this plugin called Pretty Links. To use it, simply install the plugin, activate it, click “Add new link” then paste the link that Amazon gave you into it, and it will give you a new link to use. It is still has the exact same destination, and you still get the same commission, it is just a way cleaner way of doing it, and Google likes it way better, and they will rank you better.

Add Google Adsense on Your Websitegoogle adsense how to

Now that you have revenue potential through affiliate marketing, it’s time to set up Google Adsense. Google Adsense is an advertising placement service by Google, which allows you to display targeted text, video or image advertisements on website pages and earn money when site visitors view or click the ads.

To sign up, go to the Google Adsense home page, and hit sign up, then follow the steps they provide, and within a day they will activate your account.

Once your account is activated, it is time to put the ads on your site. There are many ways of doing this, I will only be mentioning a couple, the first way being through QuickStart ads.

To activate QuickStart ads, you use the same code that you put on your site when you connected your site to adsense, and paste it into the head tag of every page. The nice thing about these kinds of ads is that once you insert them into your page, you just flip a switch and adsense will start to show ads automatically.

The next way is putting ad units on your site. With these, you can select exactly where you want ads to appear on your page and the ad types and styles you want to show. These do take longer to set up, but you get complete control of where you want your ads, QuickStart just puts them where ever they want.

Log into Google Adsense, then click “My ads”, “Ad units”, then click . Now select the type of ad you would like to create, fill out the information to your liking, then name the ad, save it and get the code.

You can make your ad units widgets, or scattered in your post. To make a widget, log into WordPress, hover over Appearance, then click widgets. Select the Custom HTML, and paste the code for your ad into the content box. Note that they will not show up immediately, it can take a long time (weeks).

To paste them into your post, find the spot within you want to display it, then click the Text button, which will show your post’s code. Then paste the ad code in the desired spot, update the post, and your done.

Keep Making Content!continue creating quality content

Now that your site is all set up to make you some cash, it’s time to keep on creating content. Like I stated before, content is the most important part of your site, the more content you make, the more people that will find your site, leading to more ad clicks and more purchases, which means more money for you. You must keep working hard to create new content as frequently as possible to achieve success on your website.

  1. Thank you so much for this article. Since I am new and this is my first time having my own website, I really do not know much about adsense or anything. I would like to know if adsense can be used on a site promoting Wealthy Affiliate with my target audience being anyone who wants to work from home , but mostly toward parents.?
You have valuable information here and I would hate to miss out on it being able to help my site due to my not being very knowledgeable..
Thank you for your information even if it is something I shouldn’t use.

  2. I just started a website and on the review I did I did not place any links but I also did not do any comparison. I wanted the review to just be informative. Do you think this is was a good thing to do? I have heard that you do not want to place many links in your content.

    1. If you created a review, you should definitely add an affiliate link to the product in your content. Your content can still be informative if you have a link to the product. You don’t want to use too many, but in the case of a review, you definitely need one. Thank you for reading!

  3. Great info! I like how you described both affiliate programs and Google Adsense. I’m currently using the Amazon affiliate program and Adsense and am slowly getting closer to my goals. It takes a lot of work and patience, however utilizing both these tools is very useful in making money on your website. Thanks for sharing!
