How to Earn Money on YouTube – In 5 Simple Steps!

If you have any access to the internet you know what YouTube is.

It is a website that allows you to watch an endless assortment of videos and even create and post your own.

If you can create videos that people want to watch, people will subscribe, and when people subscribe, you gain popularity, and once the popularity is gained, you can place ads on your videos and when people watch those ads you will get paid a commission.

I have broken it down into a 5 step process that if followed correctly can lead to quite a bit of profit from YouTube.

Before you can even think about creating videos, you must first create an account to post on.

Step 1: Pick a Topic

First things first, you need to pick what your videos are going to be about.

Make sure it is something you are interested in and make sure that you will have tons of stuff to say about it.

Be sure not to copy other peoples ideas, be UNIQUE and viewers will like your videos better, and maybe even subscribe.

Step 2: Choose a Name

One of the hardest parts of starting a channel is choosing a name.

You can have it be your actual name if you would like, but it could be anything related to your topic, let your imagination run wild!

Just try to keep it in the 4-12 letter range because if it is too long, people won’t remember it, and people won’t type it.

If you are truly stumped, Click Here, it will bring you to a YouTube name generator.

Once your name has been selected be sure that nobody else is using that name already.

Step 3: Set up Your Channel

You already have your topic and name picked out, nice job!

We now have to create the actual channel.

First off, you need to create a google account.

I would recommend you create a new one for your channel, but if you already have one you want to use that’s fine.

Once you are logged in, head over to YouTube and click on your google account icon (top right) and click Creator Studio.

Then you click Create a Channel button and enter the name you picked.

Once your name is entered, your channel will be created.

I would recommend you set a profile picture by simply clicking View Channel, located within the Creator Studio, then hit Customize Channel.

You will now see your current profile picture located in the top left, and all you need to do is hover over it, hit the little pencil, hit edit and upload the image you would like to use as your profile picture.

I would also recommend you set channel art, add links to your social media, and fill out you channel description.

There you go, at this point your channel is set up, time to make some videos!

Step 4. Create YouTube Videosmake a video for youtube

When it comes to growing a channel and gaining popularity, there is nothing more important than the videos.

To start, you are going to need something to shoot your videos with, a camera, and it would be a good idea to get a camera that can shoot a video in 720p or higher (If your phone can, just use that).

You now want to decide if your video is going to be stationary or are you going to walk around.

If you are going to be stationary I would highly recommend you pick up a tripod.

If you are going to be walking around, be sure to hold the camera still and don’t be shaky.

Also make sure your lighting is good because if it is too dark, people wont be able to tell what is going on and probably click away.

So now that you have your camera and have decided how you want to shoot your video, next is to decide what you want to do your video on.

You might think, “Why would I do a video on that, everyone and their grandma has done a video about it, what more can I say?”.

Well you may not be saying much new information, but you really want your personality to come through in the videos, and you want to not only be informative, but be entertaining.

Have you ever watched a video and been completely bored out of your mind?

The narrator talks like a robot and it is not very entertaining, they don’t sound very enthusiastic.

If you love what you are doing and talking about, let it come through in your voice, be energetic and enthusiastic, it’s a lot better to listen to it, and people will enjoy it much more.

When it comes to the content of your videos, you want to obviously make sure you know what you are talking about, maybe do some research on it or else people will dislike the video and not watch or trust anything from you again.

If you can make follow all these tips and make something truly unique, people will love it.

There you go, your video is done, but I would highly recommend you watch your video before you upload it, because if you can’t sit through your own video, what makes you think other people will.

You may also want to consider editing your videos, I’m pretty good at it, but it still takes me a few hours to edit a video like the one up top, so if you can do yours in one take, I would recommend doing that.

Now your video is done, you watched it, like it and are ready to post it.

If your internet is fast, then I say to just upload it at your house, but if your internet is slow, I would recommend you find a place, maybe at school, maybe at a friends house, to upload your video more quickly and save time.

You want to name your video something interesting, but not false.

You don’t want people clicking on the video to find it has nothing to do with the title.

You want it to be correct and to captivate their attention.

Also, I would recommend that you create a custom thumbnail, I use Canva and it really works great.

Congratulations, your first video has been published!

However, one video will not lead you to tons of views.

You will need to keep the content coming, and soon enough, you will gain some viewers and popularity.

Step 5. Monetize Your YouTube VideosYouTube money

Now that you have gained some viewers, it’s time to monetize your videos and get paid.

First head over to YouTube, hit My Channel, then click Customize Channel (up top), then hit Video Manager (above your profile picture), open Channel (side bar), then click the enable box under Monetization.

Read all the terms and check the 4 boxes.

Next, set up an AdSense account and fill out the contact information, and be sure to fill in the details correctly, because the information will be used to set up your account and send your payments.

Great, your ads are set up and you will be earning in no time!

Keep on Creating!

Your channel is now up and running, great job!

Now you need to keep producing content so people will keep watching and you will keep earning!

  1. I actually have a question about monetization. I wonder that should I focus on just one subject or more for more views? Do you have any experience about it?

    1. I would recommend having your channel centered on one subject, like reviews or gaming, but you can always have multiple channels, which will eventually lead to more views. No, I don’t have much experience with a channel myself, but have been thinking about starting one for a while now. Thank you very much for reading!
